My background
Hi, I'm Pat Stevens, better known as P.S. Originals and welcome to The Grin Collection. I've been drawing faces on cloth since 1989.
It all started when a friend asked me to share a booth with her at a local craft show. I paid $15 for the booth and sold $190 of hand-drawn, sewn and decorated cloth bears. At that show a lady said, "That is the cutest face. You should have it copyrighted." Others asked, "Where are you going to be next?" I didn't know anything about the world of arts and crafts. However, I jumped right in and a year later, P.S. Originals was born.
I copyrighted my original drawings, "The Grin Collection," in 1990. Named for their smiles, I began with 9, and now have 35 different characters. The bear, rabbit and cat were the most popular. I added a cow, pig, mouse, frog, chick, dog, horse, duck, moose, hippo, bird, cardinal, owl, and penguin to my zoo. I have also designed a raggedy ann and andy, scarecrow, witch, ghost, mummy, snowman, and gingerbread. My faceless designs include a tree, acorn, leaf, pumpkin, birdhouse, flower, cross, heart, star, and snowflake. All my designs are hand-drawn and signed on a multitude of fabrics and quilts to achieve unique creations. My collection ranges from 2" to 27" tall. I make ornaments, pins, and magnets but the majority of my pieces are wall hangings. I place some in wreaths or picture frames. Others are attached to bases to be displayed on shelves or furniture. Many customers purchase my designs for their front door. Most of my creations are lightweight and thin making them well suited for your main entry with a storm door.
I love making one-of-a-kind creations despite how time consuming it can be. There is a moment after finding that perfect button, scarf, or "thing" that brings the piece to life. My experience
Over the years, I have setup at many crafts shows in Ohio and a few in Michigan. Recently, I have scaled back to only fall shows. You will find me at the Christmas in October show. This is a Cloud Productions show at the Hancock Co. Fairgrounds in Findlay, Ohio. Then as a member of the Toledo Craftsman's Guild, I attend two of their fall shows. You will find me at the Bewitched Harvest Art & Craft Show at the Premier Banquet Hall in Toledo, Ohio and the Winter Festival of Crafts at Lourdes College in Sylvania, Ohio.
My vision
I love expressing myself with textures and with unique accessories. Sometimes I'll find a vintage button or brooch. Other times it could be an ornate piece of wood or textile. I've also learned to love glitter and spray paint, twigs and ceramics. You never know what little tidbit will make the perfect bow or beak. I try to give my creations life by tending to the details. I always want to put a smile on your face. It's fun to see my customers delight in decorating their homes or picking out a gift for someone special in their life.
